WELCOME TO DAY 10

The semester is flying by.  This week I invite you to continue to work on your Case Study.  Please watch the videos below to guide you in this process.  You will notice that I have NOT asked you to respond to the readings by posting a response or replying to a prompt.  To repeat myself, you DO NOT need to respond to the readings in the traditional way this week.  I want you to put your readings to practice with your learner.  As you are reading I want you to think about your specific case study child. Use some of the strategies recommended in Beers to help move your child from your learner's dominant working phase to the next.

Friendly reminder:  Please remember that your summative assessment reports are due next week (Saturday, November 17).  You can find the guidelines and presentation guide in the "Assignment Forms & Guidelines packet p. 17-20.   Below you will also find the video going over the guidelines that I published on October 4th.

.

I have deliberately not given you a lot of readings and posting/reply work this week so that you can work on your Case Study Binder.

Please make it your goal to try and complete the following over the next week:

1) Place your child on the Developmental Continuum
2) Write-up (where and why you placed child AND analysis of the value of the information revealed by this assessment tool.
3) Summary of Strengths and Growth Areas (written conclusion and two-column table)
4) Recommendations for Intervention Matching Growth Areas (Table form: growth areas one side, interventions opposite)

CASE STUDY WORK

Last week I shared with you how to use the Developmental Continuum (Phinney/Ward).  I invited you to note behaviors you have observed as well as from all the data collected to determine the phase your learner is mostly working in.   I proposed a goal of having your child placed on the DC on or before November 10th.   In the video below I review this goal and the objectives of this assignment.  I also invite you to set a new goal for November 17th and beyond.  Please watch the video below to see examples and hear the directions for this portion of your Case Study Binder that is due December 15th.

Consolidation Phase

Below I give a quick overview of the key indicators or behaviors that are exhibited in the consolidation phase.I also provide some examples of children within this phase reading so that you can get a feel for what reading at this phase sounds like. My hope is that it will help you to use and decide which phase of the Developmental Continuum (Phinney/Ward) your learner is mostly in.

Silent And Flexible Phases
